Hey so I'm making a block of landscape for someone for their game, Vivarium Seed: Keepers of the Last Continent. This will be the demo level. It's based on large creatures with tribes of people on their back who fight each other by sending the people across to the enemy creatures. The landscape has a river network that…
Circled area: Seems too bright. It sticks out a lot... sticks out as in.. catching attention. Arrow: Texture seems stretched and blurry? Also the textures for the walls/pillars are all very similar.. might wanna look into something more separating.
Hi there BigJohn, interesting and valid points :) I agree about the "break time" part, too - reading books, studying theory and other things like that are extremely valuable, and necessary. I think there is a distinction to be made between "random doodling" and "purpose-driven doodling" tho. Not much can come out from…
Here are some the best practices I've found for myself. Unless I'm required to, I try to stick to relatively small projects. I've found it pretty easy to lose interest in larger projects before I've completed them. I try to work on things that I enjoy. If I feel like making some cyberpunk stuff, but I'm stuck working on a…
well packed UVs, overall pretty accurate take on the weapon and is always a good exercise to do one of these rifles in a portfolio, i think. keep at it and you'll have a well tuned piece and good experience for future projects. but please please please do not use that dogbutt style rail adapter on top of the carry handle.…
I get the feeling you just skimmed my comment because you used the exact same reasoning that I just addressed and explained why that's not valid reasoning. Of course a game doesn't wear out and lose quality, but that doesn't make a difference. There are physical goods out there which are unaffected by age and wear, but…
If you really want to stick with the architectural road then maybe just recreate some old buildings Maybe a few from the outside and then a room from the inside? Why are you trying to stick to architecture cg? If you want to work in a AAA studio then focus on that.
Comin' up on 23 years of CG here, still loving it. Sometimes age discrimination kicks in here and there. Just have to beat it back with a stick, show them I still have that eagerness, that passion to do the best. Kudos to you Mike for sticking with it!
hmmm...try and reimport manually (by importing the same name over itself) and choose the 'reimport vert colors'. Maybe it's stuck with old colors. Also, is this in the mat editor or in the game viewport. In the game viewport, be sure to check it in unlit, or else you may be getting the scene lighting stacked ontop of your…
Isn't it all very subjective though? I mean at some point we can all agree that some stick figures are not good art. But do you play games? I mean take a screenshot from any recent AAA games and we can easily nitpick a billion little things the same as we nitpick our own art or critique the work of people asking for it…
