I probably would have stuck it out in my 1st career, photography/retouching...or I may have pursued my interest in the sciences and become a chemist/physicist or engineer or some kind.
Do animation Mentor, the people ive seen coming out of that school are way better for it, technically and peer wise. But 1st you really need to decide which role you want to do.
Here's my 1st pass at texturing this bad boy. I have a bunch of issues to work out with my gloss map, and the handle looks pretty off, but just posting some progress.
Update: add helmet & jetpack, modify the proportion & face a bit. space gloves & boots will follow.... not yet modify the poly at the limb for the deformation, want to check 1st that the general shape/ look is correct.

this is looking good man, the grip needs to be flat from the sides and not rounded like in your 1st pic, but you've prolly noticed that from the billions of refs people have posted here lol
