If you bake 16 bit and then go to 8 bit in PS it should fix that banding. You will get better dithering between values which will get rid of that stepping. -

To help the banding, you could try authoring the heightmap to 16 bit before running the plugin then reducing it afterwards. Probably won't fix it entirely but may reduce the effect. -

This is the macro: #LXMacro# tool.snapType component grid true pref.value opengl.gridSnap fixed pref.value opengl.gridFixed .16 It's set for po2 but you can set it to whatever unit you want. -

Aww man of course that's right, it seems so obvious now! So if something happens on frame 4, it's frame 20 for the opposite side (4+16). Thanks man! -

Are you using a cage? Also yeah edge padding should be higher than 1, just set it 16 or something. You can't really set it too high. -
