As ZACD said, Polycount is more focused on game art then Raytraced realistic rendering. Though, 'm going to help you a bit here: For your materials, use the physcally based material of mental ray ( mia materials) Lighting: Add some final gather (or global illumination) for more grounded results. Use linear clorspace…
I wrote that, are you using the script that comes with it? That has all of the settings for the extra maps and feeds them into the shader system as global variables. So you'll need to ditch that script and remove all the extra spec/normal calculations from the shader because that makes it really expensive. You'll probably…
There is no global polycount number for any asset, but it is crucial to reduce the amount of polys as much as possible without changing the quality of the asset. Like Antonio wrote if there is no change in the direction of a plane there is no need for polygons. Only if it´s skinned and animated you have to think with an…
I don't know about 3D art, but for general game design / indie games: Global Game Jam at NYU at the end of January. Babycastles throws parties. NYU Game Center events / NYU Poly / New School Games Club, all offer some stuff to do, usually open to the public. Eyebeam playtests too.
Was good, new FBI girl is hot, and I liked the two X-Files references, once at the start when it's on a TV in the background and again later when the senators are talking to Broyles and make a reference to "the old X designation" Really needs a Warren Ellis written episode, Fringe is closer to Global Frequency than X-Files
yep very good idea. To me you should be able to see many tiles so you can adjust all the stuff having a good idea of the global result. Tiling would be so useful in photoshop too instead of offset filter, but heh, i suppose developping a laggy openGL interface was more fun.
This is very unfortunate =( If China wants to indefinitely compete on a global scale and truly surpass the West in terms of quality of life and national standing, many of their policies seriously need to be re-evaluated, even if that means doing away with their current political system as a whole. In lighter news: [ame]…
Yea Wisconsin... I would get out in the next month or so. I spent two winters just north of Minneapolis. I don't think I'd sign up for that kind of punishment again. They can keep the tornadoes and snow drifts that hide cars. Well, maybe global warming will make it a more hospitable place =P
The only thing im wondering is how he will pull this off in the editor. Brilliant paintover i admit. Def the way to go. Will be interesting to see if he can get a similar result :) I guess playing around with the light sources is the way to go. For example bringing down the global/ambient light and possibly some texture…
