curate needs to fill up the finansial information for you as well provide your name etc etc . After that you can upload them as curate items , and remember curate includes the construction directory as zip so this is the reason they are so biger than ready to use items.

Hello there. You can lock the image. press 5 to go into item mode, then press the image so that it is selected, go to edit in the top menu, and press "lock selected" Or select the image (item mode) and press J. Just remember to unlock it in the edit menu. if you want to move/edit it.
Ha, that old tutorial I wrote. You should delete that from the Wiki! If you'd like I can write up a more up to date tutorial on getting an item into TF2 for testing that makes use of Valve's Item Test system which wasn't released when that was written.
