Long time no update, but it's taken me a while to texture this car and learn that process, as well as making it into a low poly model. Comes to 12k polys at the moment, plus an extra 1000 for each of the tyres (300 unsmoothed). Still got some bits and bobs to finish up, but almost done:
Seeing how focused they are on the UI and making it VERY user friendly, I really think the plan putting out a UE4 UDK pretty quickly, it might not be this year, but I'd hope we wont be waiting forever for this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=acR4n6lJEdQ#t=301s
If I just get the graphic card, it just goes straight in my current configuration, replacing the my current crappy graphic card. And as far as I can tell, the power supply is 305 watt, I have a 450 watt but its stuck in storage in the UK (currently in Irland).
Seen them advertised for pre-order today, looks like there available on the 6th of next month. Cheapest is £309 on my usual hardware website. Pretty steep for the base version 470, the 480 is like £400+. Too rich for my blood (and my salary) atm.
I'll second the MSI 970, been running one for a couple months now and its great. The 3.5gb issue would have been nice to know before i bought it, but i'd still have probably gone ahead instead of dropping another $300 for the 980
Oh, feck it. I give up... There'll only be one Akira (manga) and one Watchmen (comic) and one 300 (comic) and one Sin City (comic) and one Swamp Thing (comic) and one V for Vendetta (comic) for me. I'll be in the pub with Alan Moore.
Community colleges are the cheapest education option, about $5,000 or less a year. Universities are $10-$15. Some trade schools qualify from the gov, but for profit and private schools have to operate almost solely off of student tuition and/or donations. and can cost $30k+ a year.
From Shacknews: "Don't expect your modding progress to be quick and painless, though. "Doing significant work will require patience, because internally we use a 300 core renderfarm for megatexture creation," id's John Carmack said on Twitter." Hah. I guess, that's why.
Oh snap! I've been working with Unity for months. I got the free promotion iOS and Android exporters last year for Unity 3.5, and was planning on paying the $300 to upgrade to Unity 4.0. Now it seems I don't have to bother paying anything. Bonus!
That works if you're making spruces and such. Try making a scots pine, now that's hard :P Anyway, 300 DPI displays would surely help with the shimmering effect when using needle billboard textures. One can hope displays like that are standard some day....
