Yeah that's pretty much the base. It's a composite of light-angle two tone from the Toon menu, Contours from Mental Ray and a bit of AO as well. After that the colour, details and lighting tweaks are done in Photoshop.

Razorb - hhnnnggg, I love your stuff man, it oozes swag. Mgrecke - that thing is sweet! how big is the texture and do you plan on animating it? makecg - nice model! I think you should render him with a toon shader
Looks pretty good. In idle i think he should be breathing and maybe his mouth should be moving as well. He'll need eye blinks and an angry morph when he slams his fist down. Overall though, pretty neat toon.
Well... I'm working on this guy, for my first 3D game, which is aimed to be played by both laptop gamers and desktop gamers, and also be an anime-styled sci-fi 3rd person shooter. He'll be there as a rescue-able NPC actually. NOTE: as much as I'd like to apply toon shader on this character, but doing so might disappoint…
I've been working on this scene for awhile. This is an experiment for me to learn the ins and outs of modular mesh sets and how to create the pieces necessary to build a complete environment. I played around with a post process material today to add the outline effect and then added some stepped shading for that toon-ish…
