tokidokizenzen: Sweet concept, thought it was a model at first glance. Realized I can't call myself a 3D artist if I've never made a wooden barrel. So I've been working on the ubiquitous wooden barrel... That's also a sentry robot. Impractical? Yes. Fun? Oh yes. Just testing out some of the mechanics. Still WIP
Working on a wooden toy -like thing, inspired by Nakagawa Takeji. And no, those dark grey parts are not going to be in the final. They're merely placeholders for the actual parts.
Does anyone here know where I can find the image (or artistpage) of this little kid in a forest holding a wooden sword fighting monsters. I think it was a painting and I'm pretty sure it was a polycounter :)
Ah, crap, someone else also took note of this but I sort of made it look like metal... Thanks a lot for the info though (so the wooden version basically stopped becoming available during the Vietnam war?)
dougjuno: looking sick! im wondering how you modelled and laid out your fallen wooden slats. I sometimes find it takes too long to create those details when your pressed for time on a retail project. looking forward to seeing more
Been doing more small projects, trying to focus on material definition; working on my weakest area. The latest one is this stick grenade, I think I might have boosted the contrast on the wooden handle's specular detail a bit much, it's not looking as uniform as I'd like it to. It's all part of the learning!
Are you using any kind of measuring tools for your proportions and masses? Because those are important with real clay and your proportions are pretty much out there. :) Some simple large wooden pliers will suffice just nicely. Also, try using a spatula to slowly add mass a little bit at a time. I found it a lot easier then…
