Hi, I'm French CGStudent (ArtFX) and it's my first post here. In order to practice 3D modeling (in Maya) I choose to model one of the District 9 movie gun. First I start with a bloking based on picture from Weta Workshop Book The Art Of District 9
Maybe add a slight fresnel effect to the texture and something along those lines here, but not as strong http://stephenjameson.com/tutorials/anisotropic-shader-for-hair/ http://www.polycount.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1285215&postcount=9
Thanks :) Yeah, just thought i'd throw them in to make it look a little different. I solved the issue, pretty much - i got 9 parts to tile properly in max then rendered it out, then in photoshop just trimmed the excess and resized to 1024x1024 and it seems to do the trick!

Perna: Cool stuff man! I don't suppose I could toss in a request for alpha channel support eh, so we can knock these out from the backgrounds? Also, I take it this only works from what....2009 up? I tried it on Max 9, but got a number of script errors. On 2011, works like a dream. Thanks for this!
Working on two projects atm, ready for relaunching my portfolio site in a few weeks. The first is a sci fi pistol with some art deco elements, which I started as part of a cgsociety workshop in the summer. Currently working on the textures. The second is resurecting a project i started ages ago based off of the pick up…
