Let’s apply it right away. Looking at the game assets, the barrel mesh was made with a 24-sided cylinder, so I tried using a 24-sided shape. My eyesight is bad today, so I guess I'll have to stop work. The floaters are very visible. I'm so lucky to have this community and kind people like you.
@@wirrexx oh my god. It's amazing how simple it was. I think my decision to try to solve the problem with a 24-sided cylinder was foolish. It seems like the story will end if you create a low polygon with a 24-sided cylinder of the same size and a high polygon with a 48-sided cylinder. But I have one more question. Did you…
Made this in 5 min. You should try to find the amount of sides that will makes it easier, here 24 and 16. Then, boolean isn't a bad method, it's the correct method for that kind of stuff.
With mutiple rings moving inwards like that you can optimize as you get away from the edge as well. So 24 on the outer ring reduces to 12 in the middle reduces to 6 in the center ...
deoseph - after just figuring out my own probs, all I can suggest is more subdivision/mesh before shaping it? the 'banding' or ripples I'm pretty sure would be minimized and solved by that - just try it out on a cylinder of maybe 30 to 50+ sides (looks like yours is around 24?)
Hi, I'm not too clear on getting the proper shape transition. I'm sharing my attempts and problems I found, please have a look at them. I started of with quarter of 24 sides cylinder(6 sides) as I found easier to manipulate the overall shape but I was getting pinching or sharp edges. I believe I have to start with a higher…
Not that I'm an expert, I'm here for the same reason, learn new techniques. This example is something I've found myself the need to use more geometry than usual: Even with 24 sides I couldn't get a smooth result, near the hole I still get pinching, it can be fixed adding two more edges, but it's easier to start high: Well,…
Just remove every second edge-loop until you're satisfied with the density. This is just a cylinder without any details that doesn't go all the way around so it could easily be done with a 5 sided circular base (I would rather go with 12, 16 or 24 though as they are easily dividable). Also if you remove every other…
Hey all, Long ago someone here shared the cheat sheet to use for number of sides but I cant find it on older pages, so like in example above shape on left has 20, 16 and 12 sides for large medium and small details, changing the radius to align the segments and running boolean required minimum cleanup and subdivides ok.…
