Interesting post from a popular gamer concerning the latest video - http://www.destiny.gg/n/a-critique-of-damsel-in-distress-part-1-tropes-vs-women-in-video-games/
You know I would 'like' the shit out of that post if I could Gav. 1 inch punchin! I'm also looking forward to the next episode. I *really* hope she moves on from saying "we need more roles".
When I went to college (I went to ultra-nerd school: Digipen), the guy/girl ratio was 10/1 at best in my program. The year after I graduated, the freshman male/female ratio was almost 50/50. We may see a shift away from the male gaze in media sooner than we think.
That Feminism vs Facts video wasn't very good in my opinion, it seemed a superficial analysis that unfortunately resorted to almost personal attacks on her from time to time. Not the best way of responding to her views. I feel like this video (though a bit older already) does a much better analysis and staying objective:…
Cool thread. I think it's important that people who get into discussions like this one on marginalisation have a quick read of Derailing for Dummies, particularly if you're a comfortable, straight white male (like me). More on topic, there are other issues with women in media as well as over-sexualisation. There's faceism…

This character from this game in particular is a prime example of subverting the Damsel trope. It is also an older game,…
I have a bit of a problem with this. With any other field I'd agree 100% on that. But I feel video-games are different. Consider even just the classic games that she's talking about. They were made in the 80s and 90s, some by just 1 dude, most by a very small group of guys. How is it that guys back in the 80s could do…
I guess the main issue I have with the spelunky thing is that I see the obvious irony in it, but maybe that is my "privilege" as a man or something. But it also makes me wonder what place sarcasm, irony or portraying something in a semi crass manner to make fun of the opposite has in a PC world. Some would say if you can't…
biggest problem i see here, is that all of the "activists" out there fail to recognise some very simple basics: 1. you're belief (and it is a belief) is based on your own opinion on how things should work. you are not everybody, and not everybody thinks like you do. 2. for every one of you that want things to change, that…
