I'm not sure if anybody else has heard, but I saw this on the Unreal Engine Facebook page. What do you guys think? is this for this gen as well? or a set up for next? http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/720663/unreal-engine-4-to-be-revealed-in-2012-according-to-epics-mark-rein/
I could ask the same about unreal engine 2.5 -> 3.0, did it really warrant a new engine? I mean, people often mistake bioshock for an unreal engine 3 title. When we do see unreal engine 4, we will see what it will be all about.
Unreal Engine 4 Being Shown at GDC Next Week, Just Not to the Public: http://www.gametrailers.com/side-mission/2012/02/27/unreal-engine-4-being-shown-at-gdc-next-week-just-not-to-the-public/ ... can't wait!
I remember a while ago I read somewhere that they were going to do a full rewrite of the next iteration of the unreal engine and that wouldnt be released till like 2014 or so .Either way I look forward to this .I got my start playing unreal tournament 2003.Great game .
Well, that has me excited. Also, a full rewrite of the engine does not mean that your going to have to re-learn everything. The Interface may very well stay the same. I don't want to get semantic, but that made sense to me if only because they went from unreal engine 2.5 -> 3 There is technically no unreal engine 3.0+
With the direction they went with UDK I thought incremental versions of Unreal were a thing of the past. I guess well have to wait and see what happens.
They used unreal engine 2.5 for swat4, which is what they continued to build on for bioshock I'd guess, and bioshock2 being a direct sequel would most likely have used the same.
