there is a nice tut on how to create an animated skydome here: http://juarez3d.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/tutorial_animated_skydome_v1-3.pdf creating a handpainted texture then applying polar coordinates should give good results :)
Pretty much done with the grass layer I guess, I'll probably move on to modelling the main assets for this scene. I'll do a breakdown once I'm done :) And this is a quick paint over. I'm still trying to figure out how to handpaint a skydome or project it on a sphere, anyone got any tips ?
Thanks, I'm thinking of making a tutorial about my texturing methodes plus some tips/tricks once I'm done with the whole thing. Just hoping that it turns out well and that I wont get burned out when I spend too much time on this project. As for the grass alpha, ya its pretty much 3 alpha maps stored in one big texture map…
Thanks guys I really appreciate it, very motivating. I'm thinking of using UDK for the stylised scene I first started (floating islands), I'm sure that all the knowledge I gained will be useful when I come back to it :) I'm glad you like it ! Unfortunately I never went to college or school to learn anything that's related…
Thanks for the crits, I'll work on that part for sure. Nothing final yet since I'm still trying to figure out which texturing style and workflow I'm going to use. I'm experimenting with some semi-stylized texturing right now which is based on the PRTpn maps (similar to objectspace normal map). After looking at a bunch of…
Thanks for the advice, and ya I'm trying to train myself at doing hand-painted textures, which kinda of a challenge to myself. I'm not aiming for a realistic style (as shown in the first "in engine" screenshots) I'm trying to get a stylised look without exaggerating the effect. (semi-stylised ?) I'm actually using UDK now…
Thanks for the feed back guys, this will help me improve  Haha ya I love Makoto's work too, he's one of my fav next to Miyazaki, I'd suggest you to watch his latest movie " Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below" (Hoshi wo ou kodomo). Every frame of that film is a master piece, its going to be my source of…
Thanks :) I used zbrush to make a tilable displacement map which was used to generate a "base normal map" Then I grabbed a photosourced rock texture and generated a normal map with crazybump. Both normal maps where blending with crazybump. I did some planning for the rock models and the terrain texture. I wanted them to…
