Steven Erikson - The Malazan Book of the Fallen. It's a 10 book series that finished this year. Spans an entire globe and has an incredible sense of depth and history to it. Probably my favorite series [ used to be R R Martin]. Glen Cook - The Black Company: The Books of the North Very very good 'black fantasy' series of…

Ok, I just finished the Hedge Knight Novellas (prequel stories for A Song of Ice and Fire) after reading A Dance With Dragons and am still hungry for more!!!! Finished The Name of the Wind and am half way through The Wise Man's Fear. I love these books. A bit slow at times but overall great buildup and reward. - BoBo

And as far as sci-fi goes: Ender's Game. One of the best books I know, especially from a…
Mortal Engines by Phillip Reeve is worth a read. Although aimed a little more at kids, it's still pretty neat. If you're not opposed to "modern fantasy" then I really can't recommend enough American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Stunning book, up there with His Dark Materials in my eyes.
Old Man's War!!! Not. ..totally fantasy. Its sci fi. But I read all four books one right after the other. Its an awesome universe. Old Man's War!!!!!! Now!!!
same as catstyle - Name of the Wind ( and trilogy) **get into it - highly recommended** Anything by Terry Prachett Painted man + Desert Spear by Peter Brett Elizabeth Moon - Paladin series Night Angle Trilogy - Brent Weeks Stormlight Archive - Brandon Sanderson Mistborn Series - Brandon Sanderson
They're more modern-day hidden-fantasy-underworld type books, but the series consisting of "The Warrior Heir", "The Wizard Heir", and "The Dragon Heir" was really good.
