Who wants to watch me struggle through my first attempt to texture now? Anyways I blocked out some simple colors in the diffuse. And I made a game plan for what I think the spec/gloss levels for various materials might be, although I may very well be wrong. I plan on keeping the diffuse pretty plain, and putting the…
You want to cap the "hole" off with a nice fat bevel, so the baker catches some detail there, then you'll just paint the inner bit black in spec/diffuse.
Attempting to define materials, very open to critiques and suggestions thanks Right. The shots you are responding too was just a simple diffuse color block in no spec or gloss. Refer to updated shots in this post.
:P What I meant with the AO, is that you can get away with artifacts because the AO won't interact with the engine as the normals do, since most of the time its an add-on to the diffuse. Fiddling out the AO artifacts post could be easier, if you're not a pro and can't always plan your bakes to a "one-click-bake", like me…
I suppose it might be difficult or inaccurate to paint out some wacky ridiculous holes but for the barrel of a gun or something similar it's usually dirt simple. I've literally never had it take more than a minute and I'm not sure I save any time versus selecting geo/making black geo to fill holes. Obviously I'm baking a…
@Perna, did a diffuse pass with a black material and used that to mask out the holes on the original lighting.tga, but I am a bit confused as to why. You stated the black within these indented holes is needed otherwise it may give off the impression there are plates behind it. Obviously that is not desired, but the indents…
If you're planing on using alpha, it shouldn't be a problem. If you're not planing on using alpha, it is a problem, this is one of those common noob(not saying OP is a noob) baking things, someone models a hole in their model and wonders why they have weird errors there, you know. But there is one thing to consider when…
