3 sticks of 4gb.. However with 3 sticks it would shift into single channel mode, since it's a dual channel board. Your better off doing 2 or 4 sticks of ram at a different capacity. 2x4gb + 2x2gb/ 3x4gb + 1x2gb/ 4x 4gb/ 4x2gb
I'm still rocking my 8800gt, I usually stick to the $200 card and buy when another $200 card is 2-3x as fast. Has worked for many years although I have ridden the 8800gt train for quite some time. Great advice here.
DDR3 ram is pointless unless you run 3 or 6 sticks. Triple/3 channel mode only works with 3 or 6 sticks. Coolermaster is an ok brand but pleeease take a look at this link: http://www.overclock.net/power-supplies/183810-faq-recommended-power-supplies.html You can price compare and find a PSU that's highly recommended. Only…
Generally speaking I don't recommend an AMD build unless the person's budget is 800 or less. As Mark already mentioned, for dev work Intel+Nvidia is typically the way to go. However I wouldn't go as far as to compare AMD as the awkward step between a console and PC :P Overclocked, AMD cpus are actually really solid.…
I really don't get why people hate on ASUS. I've used their mainboards in every system but one (a gigabyte board) and had excellent performance with ASUS that never failed and I typically leave my machine on all the time and do some pretty demanding things on it. Most people that hate on ASUS isn't because of any personal…
Drivers and support. If you buy a new Quadro, and it were to bog down in warranty, you'll get a new one asap. Try doing that with a commercial gaming-grade card... :) The drivers for these cards are throughly tested because the last thing someone that constantly pushes millions of verts needs, is a buggy driver. The…
Alright I think I've got everything pretty much worked out now. Thanks GCMP for putting the RAM in a modelling perspective, I definately wont be using millions of polys this year and I tend to prefer more conservative modelling, so I think I'll stick with the dual channel set-up. Here's what I've got at the moment: Intel…
Expensive! Down in specifications: so 3*2 (meaning you need to use sets of 3 sticks, like 2x2x2 for 6 gigs, opr 2x2x2/2x2x2 for 12 gigs. Rethink that 2x4gigs you've got right now. There should be a triple channel memory set somewhere on the site. Professional should do everything you need it to. Anything less than Pro is…
Motherboard: I like all the parts and specs on the motherboard, I'm not a fan of gigabyte, but it looks like they're properly shielding the audio from the network port which was the only issue I ever had with the one gigabyte board I had. That board is still functioning btw my nephew has it. The memory slots are packed…
