there no way i can keep running on my laptop till they end of the year though. i cant run udk i can hardly run minecraft ssometimes its a 2yr old laptop.
Bigjohn: Just to give you an idea how much faster an ssd can make a pc run: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZ_WWqeJAj0[/ame] Thats a PCIe drive running at similar speeds to what the next-gen OCZ sata drive will in a few months.
checking here Sandy Bridge wikipedia page it seems prices are lower than the old i7 (at least on my local shop), how is this? I would like to see some benchmarks, wonder how GTA IV runs in one of these :) I'm still running a Q6600, seems good enought.
I believe they're cheaper, faster, run cooler and draw less power. They've also apparently got Nvidia based GFX tech built into the CPU, amongst other things. Even the lower end chip I'm eyeballin' should be a monumental jump forward over the Core2Duo E6600 I've been running since 2006.
is that why you're such a douche? no but seriously... i saw something interesting the other day, an i5 running with 4 cores. i thought the i5's were dual core only?
Piippo / Calabi - Thanks guys, all seems to be working fine. System runs beautifully, so so fast. Also, not sure if it's the 6GB/s SATA ports on the P8P67 board but Windows 7 Pro installed fresh in 4.5 minutes!
I'm still running a q6600 with a GTx260 and with most games i'm at the high quality settings. I wonder if its because of the console market? Kind of tempted to go with a more powerful socket 775 instead of forking out for a new MB and RAM.
Yeah I haven't had any issues either. My HDD's are in Raid0 on Sata3 ports and it's fine. I have bluray and DVD burner plugged into the other two. Everything runs great and ridiculously fast compared to my old system.
It often just means that each core wont take as much of a performance hit as a non hyperthreading core would potentially take from running two threads. Meaning, hyperthreading doesn't gain you performance, it just prevents you from losing it :P
Aren't all i5's and i7's quad core? But the i7 runs hyperthreading like a phantom 8 core? If I open processors on Device Manager, it shows up as 8 processors on my i7. I think it's the mobile i5/i7 that are dual core.
