I have had my 50mm 1.8 on my om now for about 2 years and have never had it off longer than a few days. Bought a 135mm recently but the 50mm is so versitile and portable I find it hard to switch. Im considering getting a 35 or 28mm for my om, anyone any ideas on which?
Zoom lenses suck. Price, technology, and creatively. Get prime lenses. A 35 equiv, a 50 equiv, and and an 85 equiv, all f/2 or faster. I've married myself to a 35mm f/2 for a year and am not shooting with anything else. That f/4-5.6 lens is going to suck in anything other than broad daylight. You'll see.
I love that both the OMD and X-T1 both have have the manual control knobs on the camera itself, no routing through menus to change basic settings. X-T1 seems to have some great primes, 14, 23, 35, 56 with supposedly a fast ultra-wide coming soon. Love that they have aperture rings on them as well.
Sigma 30mm 1.4 is crop only, which is a shame and means I'll have to sell mine when I upgrade to full frame, but thats ok, i'll probabbly get a 50mm 1.4 at that point anyway. And then either the 28mm 1.8 or 35 2. Resell prices on the 30mm is just slightly less than what I paid for it new($375 compared to $415) so not a big…
Just bought the 50mm f/1.8, got a good price new at 145. Don't think i'll be getting a 28 prime soon though, as i have the 28-105 for that angle. Same for using the 18-55 just for 18mm, I think I'd prefer the Sigma 18-35 there. Btw thanks for all the advice Earthquake and others, really cool I can also get this at…
I did explain why, in my bit about people changing sizes based on framing and being compositionally lazy. Sorry, that's not true about crop vs full frame. You are forgetting distance. If one were to keep the distance the same and shoot with a 50mm on a crop, and then a 50mm on a full frame, the perspective distortion would…
Yeah..but it becomes somewhat bearable if you have a good focusing screen + huge viewfinder. I have a Katzeye screen installed in my D700 and focusing fast mf lenses is ok, I get the occasional oof shot with a 35/1.4 and 105/25 (although that's probably because of my own body movement) Still, nothing compared to using a…
Yeah, instead of the 50/1.4 I would get the cheap 50/1.8, and the cheap 35/1.8 or the 28mm 2.8, its possible you could get all 3 for near the price of the 50/1.4 50/1.8 $100 35/1.8 $190 28/2.8 $150 USED = $440 50/1.4 $350-450 new $200-300 used Something to think about =D 28/2.8 $150 50/1.8 $100 85/1.8 $300 ^ Would also be…
Oh also, the way lenses work, you can get sharper shots the wider the lens is with the same amount of light and shutter speed, the longer a lens is the more its prone to "motion blur" from small movements of the camera. So in reality, the 35mm 1.8 isn't much slower than the 50mm 1.4, and 35mm on a crop body is a better…
