Oh, since we are now on the subject of multiple-texture PSDs : I sincerely, genuinely hate them :D . They seem like a great idea, with all the fancy one-click export scripts and all - but in the end I noticed they tend to be much, much slower to work with than split PSDs with a simple one button TGA save script. I'd rather…
KP: This is the base layer set up I have for guns. I'll delete a folder I don't need, but it pretty much covers the majority of what will pop up for me. Like I said I only color code major groups. I don't bother with trying to color code individual layers except red in which case they'll probably be deleted anyways. I'm…
Can't stand that multiple-texture PSD-jazz either, drives me crazy. I also find myself saving a separate PSD just for all kinds of masks sometimes, that way I can make loads of interesting selections and drag em over into the diffuse etc. Other than that, grouping, masking and layer-adjusting does the job fine for me.
That's a great idea Sectaurs! I never thought of naming the layer the blending mode/percent that I want. Seems like a great way to remember what you were thinking a year later. Does most everyone use massive amounts of layers or very minimal amounts? For photo-sourced textures I tend to use gobs of layers and folders. But…
I use lots of masks, layer masks and layer groups. Lots of adjustment layers, too. I'm really bad for sticking with non-destructive methods as much as possible. I probably keep far too much stuff that could be collapsed down... but you never know when you might need to change one aspect of a texture. Hate bodging in…
KP, the alphabetization is only really for the beginning, obviously the order is as material dominance demands, but at the onset of a project it makes working the basics fast. That was just a shot of my blank ps file that I can open up and know exactly where everything is and can quickly adjust all master groups to fit the…
