Tech artists always seem to be in demand, and more secure position. I have a friend in that position that survived the Mass of EA layoffs awhile back. Although he was gearing for a modeling position (with a previous history in scripting), that quickly turned into a TA position.
Aha! I wasn't aware of this hybdrid position. Looks intriguing! Reminds me a bit of Jason Schleifer (his heavy concentration on rigging). I'll take a look at that website.
