Blenders problem is the programmer interface, they need someone who knows how to build a software interface. It's one of the reasons things like Sculptris and Zbrush are so damn awesome.
Just wanted to chime in and say I've used the 2.6 build and it looks awesome, very promising. I had used 2.4 but the interface scared me to death, the current version seems much more friendly. I love how flexible the interface panels are.

I suppose you could create a toggle for this option and map that onto a hotkey, put it into a sculpting pie menu or execute it as a script that runs when you activate sculpt mode as well as untoggle it again on exit? A bad interface is not fully capable. Blender's stigma is because they took so damn long to understand this. Their community still hasn't. They'd be better off rebranding it as a new tool with a new name and a new interface. The name 'Blender' is synonymous with 'bad interface' even among people who have never touched it.…
Oh I agree, the interface could use a lot of work, I'm just saying the base framework is very, very nice. I really miss customisable panels/palettes/toolbars, for one. What Ton's talking about is just the default layout of the interface though, that's all.
