well the i7 is quad core and the i5 is dual core. While theres still speed loss between cores just not as much as there used to be running dual chips, in short overall, yes for rendering your better off with the i7. I got an Asus from Best buy last August for 750 bucks. 8GB RAM, Core Quad, 500 GB HD, NVidia GeForce GT 220. Haven't had any problems. You can get the most recent model for a better price, comes with a better vid card now, i5, and a full TB of ROM. Its an in store model so you can probably go check it out.… -

I was speaking specifically as to the models he had listed in his last post :thumbup: The Dual Core OP - I5 The Quad Core OP - I7 and you can set the number of processors maya utilizes for rendering under the rendering subsection f6 or f7, can't remember off the top of my head. -

If that i5 is dual core, you will lose half the performance you would get on an i7. -

Wrong. i5 depends on model, most of them are quads anyway Yes there is a BIG speed difference between dual and quad core cpu As far as I know, maya uses software or minimal hardware for viewport and software only for rendering final shots. But if you use a renderer that supports gpu, that's different. Most games, new ones… -
