Hey fellow polycounters, i'm looking to get myself a decent monitor for texturing/3d etc and was wondering what people's opinions are here. I'm thinking of getting a Samsung around 24" and preferably a height adjustable one since i'm tall. Anyone bought a new monitor recently?
hyrumark, That sounds dreamy. Reading the following wiki excerpt sounds equally as interesting "the effect of quality?": EQ: I greatly appreciate the panel type breakdown, I know this has been discussed before but till now I have put off thinking about LCD $$$. For a Game Dev Art/Tech Forum>> PolyCount sure is my all…
Mine came with a one year warranty. I showed a bunch of co-workers and many of them joined in also. So far nobody's told me their's has borked. I use an ultrasharp at home and work, and I couldn't be happier.
HP has released new displays too, ZR24w and ZR22w. 24" being in the $400 USD range. Still so new that there aren't really any reliable reviews for it. Forgot to mention that HP ZR24w normal gamut and Dell U2410 is wide gamut. This might be an issue if you don't wan't to work with wide gamut display.
You really owe it to yourself to try an IPS panel if you've never had one. To me the difference is astounding, it doesn't feel like your looking at a screen, more like your're looking THROUGH it. With TN panels I can always make out individual pixels, and black never looks black. On IPS panels, black looks really black and…
I got mine from here; http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=&products_id=822 cheapest price I found in the UK, next day delivery, the people there respond to your emails and they are now selling the A01 version. I got a A00 version but there are no obvious tint or dithering issues, but even if there…
If I was to get a monitor now, it would be the Dell UltraSharp U2410. The newer batches should have cleared few of the problems that were evident plagued the older revisions. REV A00 is the model to avoid, and REV A01 should be better. Revision is easy to check like so:
Whilst I certainly didn't mean to upset you, which I'm sorry for, I stand by both of my points - Colour accuracy is a good thing, and paying more than $400 for it isn't neccesarily bad. Obviously paying a fuckton of cash for something marginally better is silly unless your work absolutely demands it. I apologise for my…
Wow! Thank's guys i'm impressed at all your input. It's a good point about the various screens that my work will be seen on. I definitely dont need a photographer's standard monitor. As i'm in the UK i'm looking for a monitor around 200 pounds which should get me a fairly decent 24". I hadn't heard of IPL before as i…
