Levus: Yeah maybe I'll put more dirt, we'll see. Spitfire: Thanks man. Like what ged pointed out, the spec needs more work. Ged: Ok I'll try it out. But isn't spec maps are supposed to be grayscale? Is it fine to use colored spec maps? Thanks.
You should try experimenting with the contrast on the spec map, and really think through what is what, material wise on it. Try using the spec map to really bring forth all those details you got. Looks great overall, keep going!
Thank you guys! Ok, so I turned the saturation up a bit and used a colored spec map. Do the details pop more a bit and make a little more contrast? I also turned down the bloom. Here's what the spec map looks like.
Thanks ged. The blue lighting was just an overlay of another screenshot in marmoset to mimic rim lighting effect, I'll be toning it down. I'll also increase the saturation of the yellow paint a bit. Just realized it's low saturation. Btw, here's the spec map. Should I decrease the spec on the yellow paint?
ah your spec map is grayscale that would cause a problem seeing as some paints and metals have a coloured reflection/specular. eg http://www.fastenercomponents.com/images/machined_metal_fasteners.jpg I would make all the parts that are painted very slightly yellow/orange and allthe parts that arent very slightly blue this…
Maybe some heavy directional scratches along the drills buckets/blades to look like its been dug through and scratched along? Also, id get rid of the spec on the tires...rubber is really matte. Besides that though it's great, I love it:)
very cool but Im not liking the strong blue lighting and the lack of saturation in the textures/ faded yellows. Check this out http://www.freefoto.com/images/13/12/13_12_39---JCB-Sitemaster-digger_web.jpg even in the shade its fairly orange or a warm yellow. Its not far off but just a little more contrast and colour. whats…
Thanks guys! adam: Yeah it's really hard to get decent shadows inside marmoset. That's why I'll definitely put it inside udk for the final presentation (but my udk skills are still noobish :poly122:). Anyway, final update I guess. I played with the levels of the spec map, but no significant change haha. Thank you for the…
I know you said this is done for now but I have a few suggestions. First of all I'd like to say the bake came out fantastic and the final piece has a lot of character to it. Great work. Right now as it stands it feels pretty flat. Your specular map lacks contrast so that the metal pops and distinguishes it from the paint…
