That really sucks to hear, dude. I'm currently in the US and hoping to find work so I can stay in the country and the whole visa issue is sketchy at best. Australia is far worse than Canada in terms of game studios and finding work, if anything you're better off than I ever will be. There are a few visas that are available…
Not that uncommon from my experience :( In a way it does create loyalty though - you just don't leave if you have a hard time finding another job /sarcasm
I understand that the job market "sucks right now", but how was it a few years ago for game-artists? Did recent graduates with solid portfolios land jobs back then? Were there lots of artists that couldn't find work? Im just curious because there seems to be more and more of these threads popping up. And Art-Machine, yea…
Errr what?! Thats outrageous. Way to treat your employees "leave and we'll make it as hard as we can for you to find another job", I bet that inspires loyalty...
I agree with sama.van. At this point you should work with a recruiter (be sure and find a good one). Your work is excellent so the additional job search help could be good for you.
Unfortunate to hear this. Always thought your work was grade A. Lots of advice in here, a lot of it good advice. But you know what your doing. Best of luck to you, and anyone else that finds themselves in such a situation.
Wow, this thread is a dose of tough truth. Makes me feel good to know that there are others out there in the same rut as myself. Good luck to all in finding some work. We definitely need it about now.
Canadian ink, who the hell are you? Dejawolf is a bit of a dick but when did you become games industry forum etiquette police? if art machine isnt interested or finds the presentation unprofessional he can choose to decline or ignore it.
There are a lot of artists here with great technical ability, but for what it's worth, you're one of the people on this forum who I admire for having a great personal style. I'm not in a position to give any advice, but I hope you find a job that caters to your skills.
