The help files (F1 > search) and tutorials (Help > Tutorials) that come with max are great at teaching this stuff. Video or text? Personally I like written tutorials more than video because you can quickly reference back without having to scan hours of footage. If you do use video tutorials you might want to take notes and… -

+1 to Vig, the max tutorials are excellent. Reading the max docs is a very good habit to get into, they are very comprehensive and usually the fastest most reliable source of information. Poly modelling is pretty generic so if your feeling confident with max's poly tools then dont restrict your search to max tutorials.… -

Modeling tutorials never really helped me much.. What i suggest is to go trough wip threads and look at wireframes and lots of practice ofcourse.
