Id-tech, more like MID-tech, amirite gaiz? Still excited for the game, I mean, despite Doom 3 and Quake 4 not being the best ever, they were enjoyableish
i liked the character design. its a lot more.. characterized than other games, with their generic bulky marines. although i fear the game might play a lot like an elongated tech demo.
FPS parts looks cool. Nice art and tech, but I am not sure about the racing-- looks kind of floaty. Auto-tracking guns seem kind of lame. Could be fun all the same
id Tech 5 is going to be so exciting to play with, and as a modo user I'm especially interested in how modo ties into the editor and pipeline. They still using Radiant these days? I haven't played with their tools since Quake 3.
It appears to me as if Id. only releases games to show off their tech, where they perhaps make the majority of their income? Interesting new gameplay ideas wouldn't be top priority if engine licensing was their main objective. It's impressive none the less, but then again, it was designed to be.
Wolf ET and ET:QW are both Splash Damage games. Gray Matter and Nerve Software made RTCW. Sorry to be pedantic here. It's fair to say that most Id games have been glorified engine tech demos with the exception of Q3 arena. However, I'm hoping that Rage has a bit more meat on the bones.
So, this mega texturing thing in ID Tech 5. Does it apply only to terrain or could you apply the same methodology of overlaying maps to any game object that is placed in the world? Could you for instance make every concrete barrier or wall unique after applying various levels of decals that are then baked into one…
