Well yeah I can certainly understand this all. But why would different branches be a bad thing? Instead of creating a mammoth app able to do everything under the sun, why not using the solid polygon editing source code and create some kind of simple, opensource modeling package out of it. It would be lightweight, fast and…
Looking forward to all of it. Really enjoying the animation tools as they are right now, so any of the impending improvements will just be sweet sweet gravy to me. I'm comfy with the existing UI too, but look forward to any extra customizing I can do. Will probably leave most of the defaults alone for the most part, unless…
36 megs and counting :P If anyone can do it without bloat Blender can. And the separation into different apps does happen to some degree, Roadkill for example. Also, there are currently 40 separate branches of Blender with a dozen of those being actively developed. One branch works to change Blender into a modern NURBS…
Har har, Daaark. Okay, I'll do the leg work. (goes off and reads the rest of the posts in the thread) Aaaand, my mind is blown. I am especially excited by the re-tooling of Blender's animation system. I've always like the way that Blender "blends" different animation methodologies. But I've always found the way it stores…
yup same for me - though not for animation but rather modeling/uv or game export stuff. It would be very nice to easily add new panels to the existing application to extend the features in a way you need it.
can anyone figure out how to change collada export settings? I just say save as collada and it saves a file edit: don't know if its quest or blender, but in quest3d the mesh is scrambled to hell. vert order is messed, and the animation is bugged. shheit
Some unofficial technical targets for Durian: # High detail multi-res modeling (sculpting) and render (micropolygons?) # Fire/smoke/volumetrics & explosions # Compositing using tiles/regions, so it becomes resolution independent # Crowd/massive simulation (fix animation system to allow duplicates) # Improve library system…
Sorry I didnt mean for it to sound like they wouldnt get to the core announced development goals before release. I was more thinking that the release would not be held up if one or more of the major but non-core features was not finished. For example the NURBS rewrite, Ngons, GI lighting, volumetrics, ray tracer speedup,…
I don't care about using python to change the UI as it is/will be. I quite like blender's UI as it is and I'm sure it will only get better with 2.5. I'm more interested in the custom rigging/control panels I'll be able to build that will pretty much duplicate all the rigging tools I've built for myself in XSI. I very much…
Sounds good. I have a strange bug in 2.48a where switching in and out of blender to firefox will crash it sometimes. Seems to happen on flash or heavy javascripted sites for some reason. I'm thinking it may be a driver bug, I haven't updated in awhile now... :poly121: Also, I get random crashes when trying to delete keys…
