I have a question about this tutorial http://www.citiesxl.com/index.php?/content/view/36/2/lang,en/ I've figured out how this artist went about most of the texturing (tiling, channels, etc). The one techinque I couldnt figure out was the normal mapping process. How did he know where to properly place those HP objects like…
I'm fascinated by the fact that this guy modelled out the bottom-floor windows, which are never really in sight all that much (if the angles he's shown are indicative of the game), but he mapped those poles around the terrace onto a single plane.
Texture atlas, or packed texture, same thing. The modeling style is called modular, ala the Mod Facade Challenge. More modularity info here: http://wiki.polycount.net/CategoryEnvironment
Thanks. Also i know this is a bit off topic but are there any references on the net on how to create tech greebles? Tech Indents for like doors and hallway like in Quake 4?
So what do you call his texture sheet? Multiple, single, or tiled? Excuse my ignorance of this just need a better understanding of these various techinques.
