what the fuck... Select, ctrl-b, r. Is not complicated and takes about 6-12 seconds. Seriously check out relax. Use it, it removes warping. I apply a new material with the custom checker background in the diffuse slot. To make life easier, I have that material saved in my maxstart.max file.
