The hype is definitely a little excessive, but I think it'll be an enjoyable title nonetheless. I did really enjoy the Sims though, so perhaps I'm in a minority here.
Good point Kevin.. over-hyped, over-anticipated is probably a better way of putting it. Over-rated will have to wait and see. I like the concept of the game evolution and such.. just the direction that turns me off.
I dont even think Spore is over hyped, considering what Wright has made before. Also i dont think there has been empty bubbles of info released about this game, they have backed up pretty much everything with live demos.

deffinatly over-hyped, i was really excited about it when i first heard about it all those months ago now im just meh. we heard about it ages ago, and its scope hasnt improved since then, if they had kept something back to excite me about it, it would be different, but at the moment i feel like ive already played it
All the spore presentations I've seen go like this "Here's spore and I'll show you what you can do in it" there hasn't been any Molyneux-esque over-hyping. It seems like game-devs and gamers are the ones flipping out about it while average joe non-gamer is kind of scared away, I typically hear people say "I don't really…
