Great links Vig, thanks a bunch! Although I can't seem to get Allan McKays videos to play the video, probably don't have the right codec or something. But I still listened to what he was saying and I think I'll tackle some particle fire. Some subtle changes here, I got the shadow lights working, and they are in there in…
Coming to the end now I think. I added some rocks/ruble which I have to texture, and I still have to texture the torches. I also removed the pots in favor of metal flame torch light thingy's. Its hard to see in this screen, but I'll add a simple plane with some flame to explain the light source when I'm done. I started…
Looks great! I'd call it done =) When you look at the first image its hard to believe this last image was done by the same guy, amazing progress. If you're like me, you'll start thinking about lights, shadows and camera angles as you block out the next scene you work on. I look forward to seeing what you crank out next =D…
It's coming along nicely. Awesome progress! You're not going to waste my time are you =) I held back from vomiting out a ton of lighting tips and tricks before, often it falls on deaf ears. You sir are not deaf! w00t! If you are using a volume light effect on the center spot light, under the Spotlight Parameters rollout,…
I'm seeing a big texture seam on the back wall on the right. Also keep in mind, all light comes from somewhere, and spec maps will do you wonders. Your scene needs a lot more contrast. You could try beams of light coming in from the top (possible crack in the rock above what the camera sees) or torches on the walls or…
Thanks so much Vig! I definitely am paying attention to everything here because this has turned into a good learning project for me. Not only can I see my own progress, its nice to hear it from others. It's also been a massive motivational tool! Thanks for the tips on lighting, I've tried to use a few here but I can't seem…
good paintover. all light comes from somewhere, and ambient light is the bane of 3d artists. darken it up a bit and increase the contrast by a bunch. that'll help I think.
Wow, this has come a long way since you first posted. Rocks are my most hated of all things to make and texture. Even though they are so simple looking. One crit though, the flames in the lantern/oilburner looks weird because its dull or shadowed. It should be illuminated. Overall, nice work!
Thanks for all the tips. Originally I wanted this thing to be sort of the reverse angle, as in the stairs lead down to something in the lower part of the cave and this was sort of the archways surrounding it. After looking at it via the comments here I switched it around a bit. I re did a rough new cave wall the uvw…
