Per, try XSI, it doesnt have a modifier stack, but the operator stack is similar and you can alter mesh, UVs and rigging without it imploding and it does an excellent job fixing the others around your edits. Another thing to consider is in Maya and XSI, if they don't have it, there will probably be a script for it. Likely, Per, there will be some things without 'equivalents.'
