One Enviro artist normally isn't resposable for everything you see on the screen so its not as easy to pimp as a character. "I did the three buildings on the left, but only textured two of them, oh and the street lamp and the rubble pile are mine". Just to be a dick I'm going to toss this out there. Maybe enviro guys don't…
I agree with you guys. There isn't really a lot of very general "tutorials" or guides out there for the env artists tbh. But I think that is also because it is very hard to write good general enviroment art tutorials IMO. Env creation differs so much depending on the type of game you work on, engine, limitatations (target…
I think part of the reason many people go in the character direction is because there seem to be many more tutorials to create decent characters, than environments. And most of the time (from my experience anyway), the images that tend to be featured most in galleries (forums/websites etc.) are characters, or focus on the…
Those aren't enough. A game character tutorials and even a general one will almost always be outdated somehow within a couple of years, but still stand the test of time for it's basics. A game environment however will change more, and aren't as easy to nail down from generation to generation. What I was referring to is the…
[ QUOTE ] Speaking of education can anyone recommend any good tutorials or forums that are environment specific? [/ QUOTE ] Man I find it odd that there is a lack of environment artist. Personally I love Environments, but it looks like Im in the same boat as your in. Theres no tutorials for environment artist. All I ever…
Not to hijack this thread, but are there really and decent tutorials of guides for environment artists in anyway or form? Hell, even just guide-runs from the pros in the industry? Not to sound a sour-puss, but how can anyone be surprised with the lack environmental artists when all we gets are blogs, threads and you…
Last year I spent my xmas break making a tutorial for an environment piece, I dont want to spend the only spare time I get each year continuing that trend. Maybe some pro with less family obligations has the time but I think that between what I tutorialed last year and what I've detailed in this thread theres plenty to get…
Environment art wasn't something that interested me much until recently, but now with them being much more intricate, I'd like to give it a go (environments like GoW and Strangefate's post in P&P are very inspiring). Though Ror's walkthrough of his process was very useful, a proper tutorial would be great (for myself and…
ace: 3dmotive is pretty much all environment art focused - the modular building tutorial looks pretty nice and it's cheap too. Hourences is a good resource as well. Really the best way to learn is to just do it.
