Smoothing groups is his response to the hard edges you have. In maya you want to smooth your normals by softening your edge loops. Go into edge mode > select all edges > SHIFT RC > soften edges. I've never heard of self illumination. BUT, it would look much cleaner if you used ambient occlusion on your model. Just applying…
I think your black lines are to much contrast- lets it look like a msPaint drawing. I would soften those edges using a tinted pink color (like darker). Maybe some edge highlighting on the purple chassis as well to give the edges a bit more contrast.
slaught: if you straigten the edges, and then run a relax on everything but the straight edges most of the distortion is usually gone. So for example on your thingie you could easily align the front/back of the torso center edges, one side of the leg, the upper side of the arm etc. without getting a lot of distortion and…
you can save more polies bt removing the edge on the middle of your car :) unless it was intenionnal for a subtle bump ? oh and you can remove the edge on the side too. :)
Was bored today. Wanted to try play around with pixelated edges. The edges turned out ok, but texture doesn't match the jagged look. Will have to play around with it some more.
awesome!!!!!! I thought it was going to include more of that highlighted outermost edge. could you tell a noob why you didnt? IMO it would look more fierce with that bigger edge.
i'm not sure, i mean loo how thin those edges are for the bowl thing, too thin enough to have some nasty visible pixel-overlap across the edges diagonally
Do it, get it out your system. Looking better, planks could be straighter on the edges, the grain is nice, but yeah, the edges of the planks should still be straight and parallel. Doodle with an xmas theme
