His face looks a bit too soft, rounded, and his expression too "dumb" to be honest with you. The face also looks too thin and tall. Try widening the face and cutting down on the monster chin a bit. And yes, he was shaman.

I think a darker skin tone would help making your model look more like the original - your changes to his face are okay although he should appear more brute-ish (even if you want him to be more handsome) - his front is way too high; looks a bit like a conehead IMHO.
