I remade a map from Unreal Tournament GOTY 1999 (DM-Tutorial) using Unreal Engine 4, Quixel Suite, Photoshop, xNormal, and Blender 2.9. It has been an awesome experience working on this project. I remember as a kid playing UT99 and seeing this map being mesmerized by the graphics, now it's 22 years old. I thought it would…
Alright, there have been some changes. I added dust, cobwebs, redid the lantern mount, and turned off texture streaming, and removed the texture size limit of all textures The textures look sharper and more detailed even though I'm going for a slightly cleaner look. This runs about 24 fps on my PC at 720p but when I render…
Thanks! I'm pretty proud of my stained glass work. :) Yeah, I had to turn down the resolution of the textures because UE4 was freaking out about the texture budget being over the memory limit (I'm on a quad-core CPU and GTX 1070). Most of my textures are 4K but everything been turn down to 1K or 2K in-engine. For example,…
I have tried turning on distance field shadows and changing the point light settings to moveable + turned on distance field shadows. It didn't work. It wouldn't shine through the transparent glass material and only shows a weird shadow at the top. I wonder if distance field shadows are not compatible with transparent…
For the lamps you can lower the shadow resolution or use distance field raytraced shadows. For the second option you need high resolution lamp distance field since its a small object.
Alright, I tweaked the contrast of the lighting from lit to unlit. I will say it looks a bit more realistic and smoother. I updated the model for the large central pillars. I figured out why it looked so "waxy", it was the normals. It was too smooth. I adjusted it and added some sharp corners. I also updated the materials…
Thanks! I'm glad someone else recognizes this map! :) The central pillars. Like the corners be sharper? I purposely made them have rounded corners since it didn't make sense to have super sharp edges and if you look at the original, it was just reusing the texture for the small pillars. Maybe decals or more damage on the…
Ah the nostalgia... A couple of things tho... the central pillars look very soft like they are made of wax. Probably due to normalmap/displacement mismatch. The stained glass projection is very sharp. Normally that light coming through the glass would scatter pretty fast so the projection would be blurry to very blurry…
