Yes. If you're not using a plug in that lets you manipulate and generate curves, and/or creative polystrips from curves, you should look into that for the hait workflow. Xgen (maya), Geo to Curve (modo) plugin, etc.
Never done haircards, but lots of people use Xgen for that. The details on fabric and accessories is the place where you definitely shine the most. The embroidery and the pigeon crest are so lovely. Good luck on your exam.
