Hey I'm still pretty new to Mari, but I'm looking for a workflow (or any help) with applying tattoos over an arm on a character in Mari - either colour/black. I know its very easy in SP and wraps around the form well, but I've just finished projection painting a character in Mari and wanted to use the software further and…
also look into getting mari extension pack, extremely useful tools for procedural workflow. old video but it demos the toolhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBwTpr9c75A&t=74s https://www.jenskafitz.com/development/mari/mari-extension-pack-4/
this might help https://learn.foundry.com/mari/Content/user_guide/transforming_warping_paint/warp_paint_using_grid.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGuiSuZAjoM
!00% Mari's projection system is very unique and definitely doesn't lend itself well to projecting on curved surfaces in 3D space. UV space is certainly the way to go on this.
That sounds like a job for the UV and projection/baking tools inside your 3D package, should be a good deal more flexible to work with and you get to keep a scene file with that setup around, good for tweaking. Then import the result into Mari to continue your work.
Ahhh fantastic, thanks very much guys, will absolutely try it in UV space and my uvs are decent for it. Was just looking at Kotaro Fukuda's amazing character with nice crisp tattoos so surely its achievable lol....
