JordanN , dude, i read most of your replies and its a mix of : 1 : not understanding what the hell you are talking about 2 : actually spreading misinformation 3 : going off tangents due to point 1 and 2 Just, stop , i had my laughs now its becoming cringy... /ontopi : Its impressive tech and cant wait to see it optimized…
I've worked on 3 VR titles as a character artist, there was really no difference from any other game. I actually wasn't aware I was doing VR characters for 2 of the games.
At 7 mins, you can see Brigade (dynamic path tracer) running real time in the Unity Engine. Jules says the current requirement are 2 GPUs (Volta???), but by the end of the year, they will get it down to one GPU running at 30fps with no noise. https://youtu.be/XkSTz7oXUQY?t=433
The links I posted refuted the CPU's are a problem or that it costs $$$ to do it. It's too grave of a coincidence that every console this generation has had articles written about them about being bottlenecked by the CPU. Even Nintendo's former CEO Iwata admitted the Wii U was designed with a CPU flaw, which coincided…
Thats one of the things. Secondly, this has very little to do with cpus. The current gen techs and the new ones that are being discussed here is mostly related to gpus. Games are rarely cpu bound. Some strategy games where many ai units needs to be handled at the same time, can be cpu heavy. Or games where the game logic…
No, its very close. Unity for example have Otoy Brigade path tracing implemented right now for realtime use- to be introduced publicly this year, and GPU manufacturers are following suit. We'll probably also see audio tech this system for sound propagation too. I give it 5 years until the PC master race compete to see who…
I think seeing any real-time high fidelity stuff in the short term is going to be really cool. But I could see enthusiast hardware I think in 2-3 years at the ~$1000 mark. If you look back 5-ish years ago, which isn't an unheard of amount of time in game development, PBR was only just becoming a thing. Just a year or 2…
Really insightful post! That's why you get a console generation like PS3/XB360. XB360 was out from 2005 until it was superseded in 2013 by the Xbox one. But those were incredibly informative years to not change up hardware. The difference in the hardware between a modern system and one 8 years behind is immense. They're…
It's running absolutely fine right now :) Unity have already implemented Otoy's Brigade in alpha and will be releasing the first edition this year. I give it a maximum 5 years before the PC master race are competing with each other for speed, and from there not long before nvidia/amd respond properly. In the mean time PVR…
Machine/Deep Learning imo will revolutionize several industries. Yes a bit of a hype train atm, but still the results so far are quite impressive and promising for future. Working for NVIDIA I am not exactly unbiased ;) For example: Style Transfer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ueRYinz8Tk Animation…
