Hi everyone, This is my first time doing the monthly challenge. Here is my grenade block out. I used 3DS max and made a reference of the flat geometry and added symmetry and bend modifiers to see my end results on the fly. @a_beagle That tracer themed suite video is awesome man. Yellowcard is the bomb :)
Woa, thanks for the feedback, @toxic_h2o ! :) I will get right to it! Bend modifier seems like a real time saver! @mrey4957 I don't know if it's a good way or the best way - but you can bend things with the bend deformer in Maya. Under the Rigging menu > Select Deform > Nonlinear > Bend . I'm trying to figure it out right…
@jenast_ The bottom of the grenade is tricky. The way I decided to tackle it was create the pattern on a flat plane and then use a bend modifier to bend it into a round shape. Try and see if you can get it closer to the concept. :) This is a learning exercise so why not take the time to get it right. :) Not including the…
@toxic_h2o - that's a good way to create details for a cylindrical shape and how I would have done it in Max. Hard to tell from your screenshot if this is Max, but I am using Maya and I don't know of a good way to bend things like you can with the modifier in Max. My work flow is to look at the detail of the object and…
@Shuaws Some pretty basic poly modeling + Substance Painter. I don't think it's my best project, I ended up seriously failing on authoring interesting materials, and the grenade looks a bit... flat. I think I tried to add too many wear effects at once when I would gain from simplifying & exaggerating. Anyway, I'll try to…
