I'm building a portfolio of props, I have 3 props ready to texture, 1 is already textured PBR. I was considering doing them all PBR in substance, but is it a good idea to texture some non PBR, using just Photoshop - to show some variety in skill and technique?
Maybe depends on the art style... If you're aiming for realistic, then PBR all the way. If it's a stylized asset, or super lowpoly, then you can texture it differently. (handpainted, flat color + highlight, etc etc)
I'm talking outta my arse here. But I'd do PBR realistic texture on those. They appear pretty detailed and realistic to me. I dunno why; but it seems handpainted style is mostly reserved for pretty low poly stuff. I remember seeing someone textured a pretty detail model (character) like a painting, though. Like,…
