@oglu Why does it need the fast SSD? For writing the calculated data? Is that really a limiting factor when calculating (.ie not being able to write data fast enough on an HDD)?. Cloth, fluid, smoke... Anything really. But it'll be used more for pathtracing rendering.
Theres hardly any photoshop improvements with faster GPUs, check out pugetsystems benches. probably single thread performance and fast ssds are the biggest benefits.
AMD CPUs will benefit a lot more from fast RAM then Intel ones, so how fast you will want depends on your CPU. As for doubling your RAM, have you been maxing out what you currently have ? Just watch task manager and if you're running out of RAM normally then it'd be worth upgrading, but if you're not using it all up or…
Thanks allot. This clarifies allot for me. I really wanted to just get in and get out fast, as I get no pleasure traversing markets (now amazon/ebay thanks to covid) but you are the third person to tell me to wait it out too...hmm, I will start to read on this upcoming GPU. Thanks! "Also since it looks like you'll be doing…
@obloquy It depends entirely on your budget. Substance especially loves large amounts of vram, so ideally you'd want something with 12GB or more. The 4070 for $600 has 12GB of vram and is about twice as fast as your 1080. The Geforce 4090 w/24GB of vram is the king atm, but it also costs a kings ransom ($1600 minimum).…
I'd recommend the Ryzen 5900X, as it'll save you some money and has better single threaded performance then any current Intel CPU (the next step down, the 5700X, is a bit of a ripoff). The extra cores of the 3950X are probably not worth the cost difference in your case. For the GPU, if you can wait a month or so the 3080…
Well a 1080ti would be twice as fast as a GTX 1060. And you should definitely get a new PSU with the GPU, something at least 650 watts and a well known brand. Upgrading your CPU to a i7-3770K would only be 25% faster in CPU heavy workloads (I think that is the fastest practical CPU for that board). To double your CPU…
Guys, what are your thoughts on a 6800 / 6800 XT for 3d work? It just looks like a great value, half the price of a 3090, great amount of VRAM (bigger than similarly priced cards). My only concern is performance and driver support in DCC like 3dsmax, Maya, Painter or UE. I don't really use raytracing or do any rendering.…
@Varoun I had the 720 for a few weeks. It was a fast, great looking computer, with an amazing screen... but then I noticed my screen was starting to get the windows menu burned into the screen. That combined with the 4-6 hour battery life (expected with dedicated graphics), occasionally stuck shift key, and the very easy…
