I agree. Sorry for that modo negative, I know there are many people who love it. This is not a simple super easy to use package, though. I`m more worried about modo`s UX (user experience) than UI (icons and bars layout). Things which bothered me personally were config export/saving, form editor, hotkey editor, material…
I don't see why not. I would love to see something entirely game-art focused, but where is the line on where you stop, and what you don't include? Do you add animation? Scripting?
i think any software is bound to get bloated and filled with inconsistencies over time - unless you purge it regularly which would affect compatibility with old scenes made in it. usually the user base makes quite a stink when established things don't work anymore and the replacement does things differently, just sayin'.…
I'm not really optimistic about that, at least in non-indie development. I'm a big fan of Blender, but the stock UI/keymap is a major hurdle for most people and it doesn't have any real killer features to draw people away from what they're already comfortable with.
I hear ya on the Blender aspect, I dont think you will see that kind of radical change any time soon though. If you want to leave AD now, I'll vouch for Modo being an extremely good option. Looks like 3D Coat is looking into adding modeling capabilities as well.
It seems like the general consensus is to either just stick with the current programs or spend time re-purposing them to fit our needs. This is a little disheartening. @PolyHertz I completely agree with you there. I have yet to see an app that can fully let you drag and drop and build out your own custom UI like modular…
Hi everyone, Recently things have been falling into place for me in terms of opportunities, connections and finance. I thought I would mention this issue as it has been around for a long time now. We have been shackled by programs that are jack of all trades and focused on other mediums (vfx, architectural, film etc). Our…
I think... It would be great to have a piece of modeling software designed from the ground up to suit the games industry. Look at how quickly the substance tools have taken over from the status quo of photoshop. I would love to drop the overpriced bullshit that is Autodesk, in favour of a more directly tailored tool that…
to me it's more of a practical issue. i want this cool tool now and not tomorrow. assets these days can be complex and done in a variety of ways which require a lot of functionality inside the program and connectivity with other packages. building all that AND building the interface would seem a massive undertaking to me.…
