We should try to avoid turning this into an app vs app debate if at all possible. It starts to move away from original purpose of giving feedback on whether or not there is appeal in a 3D app designed from the get to with game dev in mind.
I'm always interested in new 3D-modeling apps, because I figure that EVENTUALLY someones got to get it right. I've learned to one degree or another nearly every relevant 3D modeling app there is over the past decade, and they all fall well short of what I think they could be. To me, the biggest issue with existing 3D apps…
@TYNEW, I'm a Modo user and I'd buy a new app that purely focus on game art! There is still a market for this IMO. Bring it! Do you guys have a roadmap?
No not by myself, I outlined this in my first sentence. Workforce and budget are irrelevant. Making a better app than all four of those programs (in terms of game art focus) would be a goal.
This is what everyone else thought - but eventually no app is good at everything. Hence few people work entirely in 1 app. They use external UV unwrappters, retopo tools, texturing tools, etc. Because specialized programs are just stronger. I don't doubt your intentions, but I remain sceptial that this makes for a good…
Id love to see a games oriented 3d app out there, I think doing a lot of research first would be key as no 3 games artists will agree what software is currently the best choice. Some people like certain user interfaces just because they have become comfortable with them or because they know the hotkeys well , for example…
I agree. Sorry for that modo negative, I know there are many people who love it. This is not a simple super easy to use package, though. I`m more worried about modo`s UX (user experience) than UI (icons and bars layout). Things which bothered me personally were config export/saving, form editor, hotkey editor, material…
will never please anyone by telling people what they'll get, but can win people over by showing and giving people something they must have. It will be extraordinarily difficult to do what you're describing, avoiding the "bug ridden mess" and other features (that admittedly most modelling apps do just fine), but wish you…
i think any software is bound to get bloated and filled with inconsistencies over time - unless you purge it regularly which would affect compatibility with old scenes made in it. usually the user base makes quite a stink when established things don't work anymore and the replacement does things differently, just sayin'.…
It seems like the general consensus is to either just stick with the current programs or spend time re-purposing them to fit our needs. This is a little disheartening. @PolyHertz I completely agree with you there. I have yet to see an app that can fully let you drag and drop and build out your own custom UI like modular…
