Yet another gun thread - Unique, I know. Been working on this on-and-off for a little while now, got the hi-poly of the main weapon mostly done. Thinking of making it into a Fo4 mod, so I'm working on making it pretty modular. Excuse all the floaters, they're mostly just temporary. Some of my references Wire frame…
Really? Wow, so I was wayyy off. :L I'm just glad they're too soft - it's much easier to harden edges than it is to soften them. Which of these three would you say is best? Or maybe even tighter? I can't imagine much tighter, at that point I'm going to have trouble baking it nicely.
Edges are still way too soft all around for me.The side grip/rails definitely should be really sharp, I don't know about the details of the rest of the gun but rails are always sharp. http://i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/1477659752_1/Heavy-Duty-Tactical-Army-Force-AK-Side-Rail-Lock-Scope-Mount-Base-Gun-Accessories-For-AK.jpg
Gotten some more work done - the shortened handguard is mostly done now. The clip parts at the back still need to be attached to the rest, but I need to clean up some geo there first. There's also some creasing beneath the bottom I only just noticed, but that should be an easy fix. @ShrikeAight, thanks for the tip.…
Looks good for a start but many of the edges are way too soft and too uniform when looked as a whole. Different pieces have different edges, some may be razor sharp, some very soft, variation is important. Especially things like the picantinny certainly should not be too soft. In realtime we want to make edges softer…
New magazine, stock, and a silencer modelled out. Need to do some tweaking on the stock, but other than that ready to get on with unwrapping and baking. *Ignore the Muppet on the stock, that's just a deal I'm kermitting to.
Alright, I might try and go for the second one then. All I did for that one was third my old edge loops, so it's easy enough for me to repeat for the other rails. I'll go over the rest of the metal parts and tighten them up, as well as tightening the polymer a little too, when I get a chance. Cheers.
I was at the same point when I started my HK416 (though I never made a realtime version of it). I just made test bakes to see if the highpoly edges transfered well into a normal map. All of these three versions work. On the first one only the softest angles are a bit too soft (to me). Version two looks nice.
