Hey all, I'm Ben, Games Community Manager at SideFX. My apologies for getting into this thread a bit late. First off, thanks a lot for all the feedback, it's definitely appreciated. This kind of feedback is crucial to improving Houdini and making sure our community knows the details about licensing, difference in Houdini…
Same here. Houdini is a dream to work in. Given how inherently technical CG is, Houdini is really as close to an ideal tool there is for CG. Oh is that all? :D
Houdini engine replaced batch, or 'headless' licenses of Houdini, that is why it cost money in the past. Anyway very glad to see this it's a big step in the right direction and will hopefully open up the possibility of shipping Houdini assets in final products. The marketing communication from SideFX is always pretty…
@pior this is all good feed back, and some of these points are in the process of being addressed. as for Sverchok, if you're interested in these kinds of things please do take a look at Houdini (the demo is free and feature complete), I haven't really looked too hard at Sverchok to see the extent of it's abilities but I…
It can do a lot more than this.If you have a week-end someday and think you can spend it learning Houdini really quickly go for it.You can literally do some simple yet amazing stuff in a super short timeframe, and unlike Sverchok or Grasshopper if you make a nice text editor for your game in Houdini it can work on Maya,Max…
They do have many videos demonstrating the capabilities of the Houdini Engine in UE4,but they are just not showasing them as they should. This video for example shows a really great tool that paints Ivy in vertex painted areas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k31c4sTjYNY You can find many other stuff like this just by…
yeah. For a moment I fell for it too. I was like "Free Houdini for Indies! Finally!.. no..oh, drat. Just the engine". Imho the engine should have been free to begin with. Unless I totally mistaken (and maybe I am?), it's not really that useful if you don't have Houdini as well, or if you are ok relying on other people's…
Houdini isn't trying to make a specific solution for every problem for every game under the sun. It's more of a toolbox for making your own solutions. If you made any of those things you mention using Houdini, you could share it with anyone else. But more than likely if you work for an employer, they will want to keep…
