played around with the techniques presented at the zbrush summit a few years ago by the team that made guns for the Division not bad for for almost 2 hours max to zbrush and dynamesh. Just trying to shave off some time on the modeling process.
Thanks @Mossbros. This particular thing is getting its edges from putting it in zbrush, converting it to a dynamesh object, and running the polish process on it. In all my other work though the edges just come from turbosmooth and supporting loops / chamfer modifiers.
True about the rear serrations, it was just me going along for the dynamesh ride. It's gas operated because as you use higher pressure ammunition, you have to significantly delay the bolt opening, and a gas operated locked bolt mechanism does that safely.
I pretty much just made it up as I went along. Somewhere along the creation of the slide I thought the bolt would be an interesting shape to test out zbrush's dynamesh advantages, because making holes inside of cylinders is a pain with sub-d. After that I made the rest of the gun off of that idea, basing a bunch of things…
