It's not exaggeration, the Foundry adds artificial limitations to their indie software designed to impediments to workflow. Stripping out scripting and limiting poly export is coming up with new ways to impede artists workflow, these restrictions did not exist in Modo, they had to be brainstormed and coded into the…
There are two big reasons why I would choose Blender over Modo Indie any day: Linux support and scripting. I'm a Mari Indie subscriber because I can use it on Linux and because I don't see the lack of scripting support and custom shaders as a deal-breaker for a texture painting application, although I'm sure I could make…
@Man1ik0re, Its a bit frustrating to hear that in part because I dont think you have any specific scripts in mind when you say that. Are you familiar with the Modo workflow? If your point is vague calls for "automation" then a lot of the tools in Modo already do that for you, which is why its often referred to as one of…
@Pior, I think there is a lot of "what ifs" going on, regardless it will have to boil down to putting trust in the user to buy the more expensive version if they do not need to or to do the right thing if they make over 100k... it also makes the versions in a way...meaningless. I would be curious as well to find out how…
It's certainly better than Autodesk, but that's a very disingenuous statement. Especially considering that we've been discussing software like ZBrush, Substances, Quixel, Houdini, etc. I'm not personally of the mind that they need to go so far as to follow suit with those other companies. It would be nice, but it would…
Houdini indie limited to 1080p rendering for animation. Stills, textures and other bakes are not resolution limited. Houdini indie also comes with better support and free upgrades for the term of the license. It doesn't necessarily cost more, it's just a different calculation when it comes to cost.
I mean no disrespect to others who don't see the point of MODO indie, but I disagree with your perspective. That doesn't mean that it lessens your viewpoint and I sympathize and appreciate where you're all coming from. The point of MODO indie is that it has brought MODO to more users at an affordable price point that may…
@Mant1k0re, What I am referring to as "their niche" is what the software is used for and where it stands within the workflow itself. Referring to something's niche doesnt connote that its not popular or widely used but that it has a specialized market associated with it. (see English definition) There is a core difference…
It seems likely that a lot of those happy without scripts are happy only because as new indie users they've never been able to use scripts and are unaware of what they're missing. But if they know enough about scripts to know they don't need them then modo indie is a great choice. Perhaps the term "indie" is a bit odd…
Again, tempting but in every Modo thread I've read people are mentioning they can't get by without some scripts (always the same names coming back). So I'll be waiting some more.
