I made a model in Photoshop and quickly retopo'd it in Maya to transfer the diffuse. Unfortunately the transfer gave me a horrible map; much of the color is washed out and the not at all the quality I'm shooting for. Is there a different/ better way to transfer these maps?
Not sure I'm familiar with srgb transforms. I'm just throwing a scanned high poly model and a retopo'd low into "transfer maps" and exporting a diffuse. The resulting targa file is just washed out. Is srgb an input box I'm overlooking?
I'm currently running Maya 2015 and tried to disable color management through the render settings, but it's already deactivated: I have maya on my work machine and tried booting the file up but the dropdown menu is greyed out: This problem is becoming annoyingly persistent
You might be running Maya 2016 which has default Viewport color transformation set to sRGB? It's the parameter to the very right of all the small buttons on the top-bar of the viewport.
So I realized that Maya's Legacy viewport gives me the desired look but it's still baking washed out textures in 2.0. Is there a way to confine the "transfer maps" to use only the selected render viewport?
I'll have to try this when I get off work. My main concern is cages. Can I import a custom cage? Because otherwise I worry about my cages not being aligned from one software to the next
